A few thoughts on Leadership

Leaders lead up, down, and across.

They don’t harbour feelings, they have no resentments. They are capable to say with clarity what’s on their mind, get buy-in from others, and move on.

Leaders don’t have interpersonal conflicts with their peers, leaders, and subordinates.

Leaders aren’t easily disturbed, perturbed, or emotionally compromised.
Leaders exemplifying stability, order, and a foundational strength that others can build upon. No one follows a leader who is easily emotionally compromised. Thus, if there are no followers, there exists no leader.

Leaders aren’t chosen, nor propped up.
When people follow, you are a leader. When people don’t, there’s no amount of convincing or arguing the facts. You are not a leader.

Leaders don’t complain to others about situations.
People go to their leaders to complain about their situations. Leaders talk about solutions. Those who don’t lead talk about problems. Leaders overcome obstacles. Those who don’t lead are blocked by them.

Managing difficult people and difficult conversations is the duty of a Leader. The leader doesn’t shy away from difficult people or difficult conversations.

Leaders focus on solving big challenges, while others are stuck on little ones. You hear it in their conversations, see it in their actions, and the subsequent results.
